Washington Redskins History

While this franchise has been one of the most successful, the best of the Redskins rosters came in two separate periods of time. The Redskins organization was founded in 1932 and since has been one of the better teams in the league. After winning their two NFL championships, the Redskins would be in the middle of the pack until the Gibbs era in the 1980's. Joe Gibbs was the head coach responsible for making the Redskins a multiple Super Bowl winning team by building one of the greatest running teams in the history of the NFL. The "Hog Mollies" were the dominant offensive line that opened up running lanes for John Riggins their running back. Coupled with a tough, grind it out defense, the Redskins won the Super Bowl despite having three different quarterbacks each year in 1982, 1987, and 1991.
