Minnesota Twins History

In 1901, the American League was formed and the Twins organization was originally based in Washington D.C. However, when baseball wanted to expand, the owner of the Senators, Calvin Griffith, offered to move his team to Minneapolis to corner the market of baseball in Minnesota. The team was moved to this city in 1961 and changed their name to the Twins in honor of the "Twin cities."

After the move, the Twins became largely successful winning their first American League Pennant in 1965. This was thanks to players like Harmon Killebrew, Rod Carew, and Jim Kaat. However, Minnesota fans would see their team fall in the World Series. They would have to wait twenty years before the organization saw their boys win a world title.

In 1987, the Minnesota fans finally got their first World Series title in this city when the Twins defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series that year. Four years later, the Twins would be back on top of the baseball world when they beat the Braves in 1991. This was the organizations third World Series title and second in Minnesota, thanks to players like the Kirby Puckett.
