The second Washington Senators team that was located in the District of Colombia is the same baseball organization that would later become the Texas Rangers. This Senators team was added as an expansion team in 1961 when the old Senators team moved to Minneapolis to become the Twins. The move to Arlington was made official in 1972, when the Senators left D.C. for the final time. As a result of the move, the organization decided to rename the team the Rangers in honor of the special state marshals only found in Texas. However, the doldrums of the Washington Club would follow the team to Texas. As the Bobby Valentine years set in, fans saw this team produce little more than a few winning seasons.

However, this would change in the late 1990's when the club won its only three division titles launching them into the playoffs for the first time in team history. With the additions of Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez, this team had a captain and saw post season play for the first time. However they would never make it past the ALCS because they are still searching for their first Pennant.
