AC/DC History

AC/DC is the brainchild of Australian brothers Malcom and Angus Young, who put the band together in 1973. Together with bassist Larry Van Kriedt, drummer Collin Burgess and vocalist Dave Evans, they created the first lineup for the band. Over the course of their first year together, they changed bassists and drummers a number of times, but they were set for success in 1974 when they secured their lineup with Bon Scott on drums.

The band first became popular when they signed to Atlantic Records in 1976 and began touring around Europe. The tour was a major opportunity for the band, who found themselves opening for such acts as Aerosmith, Black Sabbath and Kiss. During the tour, their first worldwide release hit the shelves, High Voltage. In 1979, they finally released an album that made it onto the US Top 100, Highway To Hell, which would make it all the way to number seventeen.

In 1980, the band seemed to be on track to a long and impressive career as they began to record their newest studio release. However, that all changed with the tragic death of their drummer, Bon Scott, after a night of excessive partying. The band thought about just giving up but they realized that Scott would expect more from them, so they replaced him with former Geordie drummer Brian Johnson. They completed the album they had started Back In Black, which would become the number one album in the UK and reach the number four spot in the US.

Over the course of the 1980's, the band struggled with various personal issues and drug and alcohol abuse, which resulted in declining popularity. However, in 1990 they released the album Razor's Edge, which marked a definitive comeback.
